Alitalia has awarded “Best Airline for National Flights” at the ceremony for the 2016 Italia Travel Awards held in Rome yesterday evening. The award comes thanks to the votes of travel agents, in recognition of Alitalia’s important investments in fleet renewal, improved airport and on-board services and operational performance, in addition to the many initiatives aimed at travel agents introduced since 2015.
In her acceptance speech, Lorna Dalziel, Senior Vice President Sales at Alitalia, noted that: “This is a very important award for Alitalia, especially because it was voted by travel agents, who play a key role in our relations with the market, as well as being in an ideal position to judge our work. In the last year and a half we have extensively transformed the company, its products and services. If the tourism industry has noticed and appreciated the way we have changed, this means that we are on track with our recovery plan to become the best airline in Europe. In other words Alitalia is back”.
The Italia Travel Awards were created to celebrate commitment and expertise in the Italian tourism industry. The real stars of the 2016 edition were more than 6,500 among travel agents and travellers who expressed their opinion using a transparent voting system. This year there were 15 categories, with 43 awards presented to Italy’s leading names in tourism.
Over the past 18 months Alitalia has implemented important initiatives to boost cooperation with the tourism industry. These include the new rates for all Italian travel agencies, with commissions now up to 1%; greater territorial presence, with a consolidated team of Alitalia agents dedicated to the trade; maintenance of BSP payments on a monthly basis; further investments in tools to support the agency sales channel; and roadshows to meet travel agents in person, listen to their needs, and find new ways of working together as well as mutually beneficial business solutions.
