New mandatory e-authorisation to fly to Canada

Travellers from Italy to Canada who do not hold a visa to enter the country will from 15 March be required to apply for a mandatory electronic travel authorisation (ETA), similar to the one currently required for visits to the USA. Details of the Canadian government's new rules and how to apply for the new ETA can be found on-line at www.cic.gc/English/visit/eta-facts-it.asp. Alitalia offers five non-stop flights a week from Rome to Toronto. Air travellers from 26 Italian airports and 50 destinations in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia can fly to Canada with simple connections at Alitalia's hub base at Rome's Fiumicino Airport. The airline recently introduced a dedicated “Transit Team” at the airport to help its passengers switch efficiently from one flight to another.

Alitalia operates an Airbus A330 aircraft on the Rome to Toronto route which in April will be completely refurbished with new cabin interiors featuring Poltrona Frau leather flat bed seats in business class and in-flight wi-fi connectivity throughout the plane which will provide internet, email and telephone services.

The airline's flights to Toronto depart from Rome at 3.05 pm and land in Toronto at 7.10 pm local time (8.10 pm from 13 March). The return service leaves the Canadian city at 10.25 pm (11.25 pm from 13 March) and arrives in Rome at 1.00 pm the following day. Alitalia’s MilleMiglia frequent flyer members can spend and redeem miles also on Rome-Toronto service.
